Peppermint essential oil is another widely versatile oil and is one of my personal favorites. It is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion. Peppermint is also linked to the brain’s satiety center which triggers a sensation of fullness after meals so it is a natural appetite suppressant!
When used aromatically, it stimulates the mind and helps with mental focus and performance. Peppermint can help lessen headache pain while also awakening the mind and body. I use peppermint in my diffuser first thing every morning get rid of the last remnants of sleepiness and prepare myself for a new day.
When diluted with a base oil and used topically (peppermint is much too strong an oil to apply “neat” directly on the skin) it can help with a large number of physical ailments: arthritis, digestive problems, nausea, respiratory infections, skin conditions (itchy skin, eczema, psoriasis), and viral infections just to name a few.
With so many benefits, this is another essential oil that should be in the top five of anyone’s collection. I use peppermint every single day and always have a backup on hand!
